The Bharat Scouts and Guides Training Camp was held from 20th May to 26th May 2026 at the Dr. Annie Besant State Training and Camping Centre, Doddaballapur. Mrs. Fathima and Mrs. Soumyashree A, participated in this enriching training programme aimed at strengthening leadership skills, outdoor knowledge, and commitment to service.
Mrs. Soumyashree successfully completed the Lady Cub Master Training Course. The course focused on effective methods of guiding and nurturing Cubs aged 5–10 years through the various stages of Cubbing, helping them progress from Pravesh to the prestigious Golden Arrow Badge, the highest national-level award for Cubs. The training equipped participants with the knowledge and skills required to mentor young Cubs and support their holistic development.
The camp offered a comprehensive blend of theoretical learning and practical experiences. Participants received training in leadership, discipline, teamwork, communication, first aid, knotting, mapping, nature study, and outdoor survival skills. These activities fostered self-reliance, responsibility, confidence, resilience, and a spirit of cooperation among the trainees.
One of the most memorable experiences was the Nature Camp, where participants spent time amidst nature, learning the importance of environmental conservation and developing a deeper appreciation for the natural world. Living away from the comforts of home helped participants cultivate adaptability, simplicity, and a positive attitude towards challenges.
Every evening, a vibrant Campfire Programme was organized featuring songs, skits, cultural performances, storytelling, and group activities. Beyond entertainment, these campfires reinforced the core values of the Scouts and Guides movement—honesty, service, loyalty, discipline, brotherhood, and respect for others. Through discussions and performances, participants gained valuable insights into ethical values and their practical application in daily life.
Golden Arrow Badge Progression
The training also highlighted the various stages through which Cubs progress:
- Pravesh – New Cub Promise
- Pratham Charan – First Step
- Dwitiya Charan – Second Step
- Tritiya Charan – Third Step
- Chaturtha Charan – Fourth Step
- Golden Arrow Badge – Highest National Award for Cubs
This progression encourages children to develop character, discipline, leadership qualities, and a spirit of service from an early age.
Mrs. Fathima successfully completed the Advance Bulbul Course, which included:
- Camp Fire and Bulbul Ring Song
- Jhanda Geet and Prayer Song
- All Faith Prayer
- B.P. Six Exercises every morning
- Daily Inspection
Reflecting on her learning experience, Mrs. Fathima shared that the course emphasized the importance of creating a warm, inclusive, and homely environment for children. The structured routines, campfire activities, prayer sessions, and daily exercises demonstrated how discipline and care can coexist in a nurturing atmosphere.
She plans to implement similar practices in her classroom through activities such as a Morning Circle, Prayer Song, and short physical exercises, helping students feel calm, welcomed, and emotionally secure while promoting positive values and healthy habits.
The training camp proved to be both educational and inspiring. It strengthened the participants’ commitment to shaping young minds and promoting the ideals of Scouting and Guiding. The experience enriched their knowledge, enhanced their leadership abilities, and created lasting memories of friendship, learning, and service.
As Lord Baden-Powell wisely said:
“Leave this world a little better than you found it.”
Overall, the Scouts and Guides Training Camp at Doddaballapur was a remarkable journey of personal growth, skill development, and character building. It left the participants motivated to serve society and guide the younger generation towards becoming responsible, confident, and compassionate citizens.
