Christ the King Public School had the privilege of hosting the children of Jyothi Seva School, a school for children with visual impairment, on 29 August 2026 as part of a special outreach programme. The initiative was planned as an opportunity for our students to interact with, learn from, and share moments of joy with the children of Jyothi Seva School.
The visiting students were accompanied and supervised by Sr Anita, Principal of Jyothi Seva School, along with Sr Angela and the other staff members. The programme brought together students from Grades 6 to 8 of Christ the King Public School, who enthusiastically participated in organising and conducting various activities throughout the day.
The outreach programme began with a warm welcome to the visiting children. Our Scouts and Guides students took an active role in making the guests feel comfortable and welcomed. They distributed snacks and fruits to the children and assisted them during the various activities. Their involvement reflected the values of service, compassion, cooperation and responsibility that are central to the Scouts and Guides movement.
A major highlight of the programme was the series of sports and recreational activities organised for the children. With the support and guidance of the Scouts and Guides students, the children participated enthusiastically in different games and activities. The interaction between the students created an atmosphere filled with laughter, encouragement and camaraderie.
The programme was not merely about providing entertainment or assistance. It became a meaningful opportunity for our students to understand that inclusion goes beyond simply helping others. The children of Jyothi Seva School participated with remarkable enthusiasm and confidence. Their ability to navigate situations, communicate effectively and take part in activities demonstrated their independence, determination and adaptability.
Our students were particularly inspired by the way the visiting children managed various situations despite the challenges associated with visual impairment. The interaction helped them recognise that limitations do not define a person’s abilities. Instead, confidence, perseverance, awareness and the support of a caring community can enable individuals to overcome many challenges.
There was a great deal of interaction and collaboration between the students of both schools. Our Grade 6 to 8 students patiently assisted the visiting children whenever required, while also learning from their experiences and perspectives. What began as an outreach activity gradually became a two-way learning experience in which both groups of students shared, communicated and enjoyed each other’s company.
A special lunch was organised by our Manager and Correspondent, Rev. Dr. Divia Paul, as a gesture of warmth and hospitality towards the visiting children and staff. Sharing a meal together added another meaningful dimension to the programme, providing an opportunity for the children and teachers to interact in a relaxed and friendly environment.
The presence of the children from Jyothi Seva School reminded everyone that education is not confined to classrooms and textbooks. Some of the most valuable lessons are learnt through human interaction, empathy, service and shared experiences. Our students discovered the importance of being sensitive to the needs of others, while the visiting children brought with them a spirit of confidence, enthusiasm and resilience.
The outreach programme was therefore much more than a day of games and activities. It was a celebration of friendship, inclusion, dignity and the joy of giving and receiving. The experience encouraged our students to look beyond differences and recognise the abilities and strengths of every individual.
The day concluded with a deep sense of gratitude among the students and teachers. The visit of the children from Jyothi Seva School left a lasting impression on the Christ the King Public School community. It was truly a wonderful reach-out activity, reminding us that when schools come together with a spirit of compassion and inclusion, every interaction can become a lesson in humanity.
A day of sharing became a day of learning; a day of helping became a day of mutual inspiration.
