You already beat millions to be here, “so why be afraid to speak up? You were born to win

A personality development training cum workshop was organized for the students of grades 9 and 10 at Christ The King Public School, on the 21st of March 2025. The training was in the AV room, 3rd floor.

The resource person was John Bhaskar, a motivational speaker who has trained corporate employees, teachers and several students, with 25+ years of experience in this profession. He is also currently the main trustee of Bethel high school. He visited our school on the request of the manager and correspondent , Rev Dr Divia Paul, and Ms. Sajana Priya, the principal to train our high school students and motivate them just has he did with the other great personals. He was humble enough and reached out to each and every student, knowing their names and communicating to them clearly.

He spoke of discipline, how to dress, how to look smart. He stated that students need to be well dressed and should come with a proper haircut. The uniform must be neat and clean, ironed and should look crisp and the shoes must be polished.

He explained how ideas should thrive and evolve within our minds. These ideas will form dreams which we should nurture by constant nourishment and hard work.

He mentioned the importance of kindness and how it could help not only others but also it can come back to you. He related instances in his own life where he was kind to all the people around him and the benefits it gave him – what goes around, comes back.

He said that we must give our utmost respect to every human being. Whether they are great celebrities or a simple van driver, they should all be treated the same.

He made the students to read aloud the materials he made, which included digital pdfs and printed copies of some of the older printouts he had made. One of the quotes within the printouts was “Jack of all trades, Master of none”. He explained how if we put our hands into all the unrequired situations in life, it could lead to our down fall.

He gave examples of his own life, how he had joined a company as a helper and came out as its biggest trustee and also as a great motivational speaker. He said he has been to many schools and colleges. He said he had been to over 20 countries and that he knows many famous personalities personally. He even gave us a brief, chilling encounter of the time he visited a military camp. He also knew other commanders, supreme Court judges and famous musicians of the 21st century.

The Maker

He made the students listen to a song named ‘The Maker’ by Chris August. It stressed on the fact that we are not alone and though it seems that everyone one had abandoned us. The creator, God will always be on our side as a comforter, friend,  guide, confidante, well-wisher and will guild us through the twisted roads of life.

‘Practice makes a man perfect’ is actually false according to John Bhaskar, he said that though practice helps us, it only improves us and can’t make us perfect. This is because according to him the only perfect thing is a corpse, as it is absolutely quiet, has no sensation, doesn’t require things like food, money, land, and since it can no longer speak of its memories prideful, humble nor cowardly. In this sense, the statement we should all work to perfection, actually means that we should continue sharpening and improving ourselves till our very end.

He narrated a short story of an elephant and a lion highlighting their contrasting perspectives, and encouraged the students to always think like a lion to be bold, brave and fierce making our own decisions.

A Motivational Session to Remember

He reminded us that worldly pleasures and materialistic desires won’t take us anywhere in life. Hard work and determination are the only real keys to success. He also talked about the importance of dressing well—how the way we present ourselves boosts our confidence. He said that dressing up gives us confidence to present ourselves and the less colour you go with, the more professional you shall look.

But the part that really made everyone sit up was when he talked about how our minds are pregnant with ideas. Yes, pregnant. A bit of an odd choice of words, but, it made sense. Our minds are full of potential, just waiting to be brought into the world. And then came the analogy that had the whole room buzzing—he reminded us that we are all winners because we won the very first race of our lives. The race of sperms. “You already beat millions to be here,” he said, “so why be afraid to speak up? You were born to win.”

That hit differently!

He didn’t just talk to us; he made us stand up, speak out, and read motivational quotes from the sheets he provided. He pushed us to overcome our stage fear, to be bold, and to believe in ourselves. And the best part? He didn’t just stick to the stage—he came down, interacted with every student, learned names, and made sure everyone felt seen and heard. He made every student feel important.

He ended in the note that though we have strived greatly for all these years to finally reach our final school years, the end of our school life is just the beginning of and is just the start of our entry into an extremely competitive world. He stressed the importance of daily revision.

With over 25 years of experience, Mr. Bhasker has trained corporate employees, students, and professionals, but today, he trained us. If there’s one thing we took away from his session, it’s that we have the potential to do great things—we just have to push forward with the same determination that got us here in the first place.
