Workshop on Financial Literacy

A workshop on Financial Literacy was organized for the staff at Christ the King Public School, on the 18th of October , 2025. The entire workshop was organized from 8: 30 am to 12: 45 pm in the School auditorium.

The resource person was Mr Renjith Matthew ,from NCFE. He began with the importance of savings, basics of Financial Literacy, concepts and terminology related to investment and savings, the need for Savings as a means to take care of unforeseen expenses, emergency funds consistency and regularity in savings. He also explained about the basics of Mutual Funds, stocks, shares, insurance, also providing insight into De-Mat account and Online trading.

The event was filled with interactive activities, as Mr Renjith walked the audience, engaged them through the session, with the help of PPTs, Oral Quizzes, Crossword challenges and numerous ice-breakers.

The key take-aways from the session were:

  • Investment, is like growth and hence takes time
  • What you focus on, will expand
  • Income- Savings = Expenses. The equation is the one that rules our savings and hence, investments, have to be done judiciously, with proper time management and predictive analysis
  • The 3 Pillars of investment are- Safety, Liquidity and Returns
  • Inflation is an important factor to be considered, both for short term and long-term investments -nominal rate of return, present rate of return and actual rate of return, considering inflation.
  • A rupee saved today is better than a rupee saved tomorrow
  • Do not put all the eggs in one basket- Do not put all your investments in one place – Hence the need for diversification
  • The concept of Compounding as propounded by Albert Einstein which is applicable even today
  • Lower the risks , lower the returns and vice versa
  • Insurance is like an umbrella that we need to have and comes handy during tough times
  • Corpus building takes time – awareness, know how of the prevailing market situations and understanding one’s capabilities and liabilities is very important before investing
  • Risk management along with diversification is essential -Small, regular investments, if started early in life, can accumulate into a significant amount, over time, due to the power of compound growth.

 The manager and correspondent, Rev Dr Divia Paul, and the Principal, Ms Sajana Priya, wholeheartedly thanked Mr Renjith, and NCFE, that he represented, for their valuable time, sound advice, interactive sessions, and for educating and enlightening the staff through the comprehensive workshop.

Ms Shaheen thanked the resource team, for this engaging, meaningful session, while highlighting the key take-aways and the learnings.
