National Mathematics Day is observed on 22nd December of every year in India to commemorate the birth day of great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. This event raises awareness on how mathematics is an important part of our day-to-day lives and how students should gain interest in this subject.

Srinivasa Ramanujan was one of the brightest mathematicians of all time. Despite the many hardships he faced in his life, he accomplished incomparable work in the areas of number theory, infinite series, and mathematical analysis. In commemoration of his contributions to this subject, the Government of India has announced National Mathematics Day to be observed on 22 December every year since 2012.

Mathematics is an essential tool in almost all disciplines such as sciences, engineering, medical studies, economy, and space research. Whether we perform simple calculations in daily life or make advances in sciences through various discoveries, the application of mathematics is inevitable as it enhances the process of proper and effective thinking.

On Mathematics Day, various activities like quiz competitions, exhibitions, seminars, math puzzles, and competitions are conducted at the school and college levels. These help the students realize that math is more than numbers. It has elements of creativity and logic as well.

Thus, Mathematics Day teaches us about the significance and power of mathematics as well as the contributions and legacy of Srinivasa Ramanujan and encourages young minds to delve into mathematics with curiosity and confidence.
