Dr. Sneha from Manipal Institute organized an enriching session on the 12th of August 2025, related to girls’ health and hygiene.
The target audience were the female staff and students.
Key Points of Discussion included :
1. What are periods?
A natural biological process for girls and women, where the uterus sheds its lining every month.
2. Hygiene during periods
– Use sanitary pads or tampons correctly.
– Change pads/tampons every 4-6 hours.
– Wash hands before and after handling pads/tampons.
3. Safety Precautions
– Carry extra pads/tampons and a disposal bag.
– Dispose of used pads/tampons properly.
– Avoid using cloths or unhygienic materials.
4. Dos:
– Use warm water to clean the genital area.
– Wear comfortable, breathable clothing.
– Stay hydrated and maintain a balanced diet.
– Engage in physical activities, like yoga or walking.
5. Don’ts:
– Avoid using scented soaps or products.
– Don’t ignore severe cramps or heavy bleeding.
– Don’t feel ashamed or embarrassed about periods.
– Avoid sharing personal hygiene products.
Tips:
– Keep a period calendar to track your cycle.
– Pack an emergency kit with pads, tampons, and pain relievers.
– Talk to trusted friends, family, or healthcare providers about period-related concerns.
Dr. Sneha also highlighted that periods are a natural part of life. By taking care of our hygiene and safety, one can stay healthy and confident. It is essential to prioritize our well-being and break the stigma surrounding menstruation.
Next was the Q&A session , an open floor for questions, feedback, where myths and facts were also discussed.
