There was a Health Awareness session for the female teachers of Christ the King Public School, on the 26th of June 2025, conducted by Dr Sneha Rajiv (Consultant- Obstetrics & Gynaecology), from Manipal Hospitals, Yeshwanthpur, along with the executive director, from the Marketing Department, Mr Rohith.
The session was held from 10: 30 am to 11: 30 am, mainly revolving around Women’s health issues. The Honourable Principal, Ms Sajana Priya, gave a formal introduction and welcomed both the doctor and the director, with a bouquet.
The Doctor emphasized upon the concept of self-care and its importance in today’s context. She went on to talk about several changes that takes place during puberty, importance of menstrual hygiene, proper usage of menstrual pads, cleanliness and personal hygiene.
The session also aimed at educating the teachers about handling the needs of female students, who would be undergoing their menstrual cycle, the various, physical and bodily changes, behavioural changes associated, disturbances and irritation.
Doctor also elaborated upon the causes of early menarche as well as early menopause- due to changes in lifestyle, diet, over consumption of junk food, sugary foods, over usage of cosmetics, etc., how to educate children as well as the parents, to opt for more homemade and healthy food, to prepare the same at home, to reduce cravings.
The doctor also highlighted the idea where earlier women were kept in isolated areas, not allowed to take part in rituals and cooking activities during the menstrual cycle -basically to give rest, so that they could regain the energy. However, over time, the concept changed, and women were considered as unclean or impure during their cycles.
Doctor went on to talk about how effective counselling is important, especially on menstrual hygiene, bleeding, how they should avoid infections, regular usage of pads, fungal infections, bacterial infection, rashes and other ailments that could possibly arise and when to see the gynaecologist.
She then went on to highlight the need for routine checkup, as it is necessary to check for ovarian cyst, fibroids in the uterus, where uterus is prone to some infection, diseases, or hormonal imbalance due to the effect of medicines.
Regular screening is essential for the two common types of cancers- breast cancer and cervical cancer. She went on to explain about the causes, remedies, prevention through vaccination, in particular the HPV vaccine.
Towards closure, Ms Lopamudra delivered the vote of thanks, thanking the Manager and Principal, for giving the staff this opportunity, the doctor, marketing executive and the entire medical team for visiting the school and conducting such a resourceful session.
Post this, there was the ‘Question and Answer session’, where teachers had different queries, and the doctor addressed the same, and provided the remedial action and advice, clarifying the myths versus facts, do’s and don’ts
For the latter part of the day, there was also a health screening and consultation program organized by the Medical Team from Manipal for the staff, related to basic health screening GRBS/ BP /Weight /SPO2, diet consultation, ECG -based on doctor’s recommendation, physiotherapy consultation, general physician consultation.
Teachers were advised to go in small groups to the screening arenas organized at the training room and board room in their free periods, without disturbing or leaving any of the classes they handled.
Thus, it was a resourceful session and the Medical Team from Manipal, helped the staff gain adequate knowledge and awareness on the importance and need for self-care.
