A Commerce expo was organized at Christ the King public school, on the 18th of August 2025, revolving around the theme, ‘Buy more, Regret Less’. The event was organized by Ms Reema Lobo, the High School Economics and Commercial studies teacher, together with her team of Commerce students.
The main idea was to involve the commerce students in marketing by giving students a hands-on experience in understanding activities related to the commercial world such as planning, pricing, budgeting, promoting, and selling actual products. Students applied theoretical business concepts like profit and loss, elasticity of demand supply chain, and market research in a simulated but realistic business environment.
The students were divided into teams of two or three, based on the product that they were selling – such as handmade crafts, homemade snacks, sweets and personalized merchandise, such as bracelets, bangles and artificial jewellery, as well as soaps, key chains and pouches.
This event, introduced students to the concept of managing finances, allocating budgets, presenting their wares. They also learnt about the importance of good communication skills, team spirit and coordination, building a rapport with clients/consumers, quality of products and service, concept of brand name, innovation and creativity as vital factors towards growth of the business.
The manager and correspondent, Rev Dr Divia Paul, and the Principal, Ms Sajana Priya, lauded Ms Reema for this ‘activity-based learning initiative’ . They appreciated her sincere efforts, in encouraging the students, motivating and guiding them and above all for providing them with this practical exposure to understand market scenarios, a platform to understand theory with practice.
Ms Reema is a passionate and dedicated teacher, who with her extensive teaching experience and expertise, believes that the best way one can learn Economics and Commerce, is through practice, discussions, debates, field-trips and not merely learning or memorizing facts from textbooks. She has been a source of inspiration to several students, especially from the Commerce stream, over the years, and has been highly instrumental in driving academic excellence, and fostering a love for learning.
